Otto came into Melissa’s life when her foster mom’s friend, Cynthia, sent a picture of the 1-pound puppy. Cynthia asked if Melissa could lend a helping hand in fostering a Chihuahua mix puppy.
Cynthia described Otto as a special needs pup whose legs point backward. Aside from having a deformity on his legs, Otto needs to be fed through a syringe every two hours.
The first thing that came into Melissa’s mind was how hard the situation was going to be because the puppy had so many needs. However, Melissa still went on to foster little Otto despite the uncertainty of how things would turn out.

Melissa shared with The Dodo how surprised she was when she saw Otto for the first time. Otto’s size was comparable to a canned soda and was even smaller than Melissa’s hands.
Otto’s size was nothing compared to her foster mom’s giant Mastiff. She admitted that she felt intimidating caring for the special needs pup.
Melissa had to work extra hard to make sure that Otto stayed alive and adequately nourished. Melissa shared that Otto wanted to be a big boy as the days passed.
Otto saw how Melissa’s other dogs were doing just fine, and he worked extra hard to be like them. Otto worked hard to eat and drink all by himself and regularly practiced walking.
Melissa shared that she celebrates Otto’s little milestones every chance they get. Otto got out of his shell when he realized that he could do so many things on his own.
Otto enjoyed playing fetch with her fur mom now that he can run around on his own. Soon, Otto started to play with Melissa’s big dogs and even began bossing them around.
Melissa happily shared that her big dogs let Otto act like he is the king of the household. She said that Otto has a big personality in his small little body, and she could not help but gush at how perfect Otto is.
