We’ve heard of the saying “dogs are a man’s best friend.” This means that they are good companions. They bring smiles to our faces by just simply being there. Fortunately, there are dogs who can afford to give more.
A 9-year-old German Shepherd, Sarge, offers more than companionship. According to his owner, Cheryl Stephen, Sarge was not friendly when he was still a puppy. Everything changed when she brought home Buckwheat, a fawn.
The fawn was lying lonely in the middle of the road when she found him. He would not have survived if he hadn’t been found. It looked quite obvious that he was abandoned.
Upon bringing the fawn home, Sarge felt concerned. He took the role of being Buckwheat’s guardian and, never left his side. He did not even allow other dogs near the baby deer. The fawn felt safe in his presence and, could not be taken away by his side.
Buckwheat was released into the wild the moment he regained his health. Ever since, Sarge was known as a responsible and caring dog. He checks on every fawn his owner brings to their home, as if he felt responsible for them. He has taken on the job to give love and care to any poor animals, including orphans, incapacitated and, hurt fawns.
Whenever Cheryl walks in their door with a fawn in her arms, Sarge is always interested. He examines them over by sniffing his nose around it, anxiously.
Sarge is a wonderful dog to his family and they are proud of him. They created him an Instagram account to showcase his daily endeavor in caring for the injured and orphaned animals who are brought into his care to regain strength.
