It was a typical day for Captain the Great Dane until something unexpected happened. Despite having no signs or symptoms, the once energetic dog took a turn for the worst.
Unexpected scene
Alice Taylor loved spending most of her time with her loved dog Captain. The evening before summer came, and the two found themselves on the way to their usual lake to have a quick dip. Captain usually raced Alice downwards the hill, but that day, something was different.
When they got to the docks, Captain stood there completely frozen. Alice had this gut feeling that something wasn’t alright, so she decided to take the dog home.
The next morning, Alice told her husband that she felt something off and went to load Captain into their car. The dog refused to walk, and the couple discovered that the dog’s legs were unable to work, causing them to go full-on panic mode.
The vet had told them that Captain had wobblers, a spinal disease that pinched the dog’s spinal cord. Alice was faced with a tough decision.
The dog was either having surgery, or Alice had to let him go. Captain wasn’t an excellent candidate for surgery, so Alice felt torn while crying on her sister while sitting in the waiting room of the vet clinic.
Turn of events
Alice got a text that told her to go to the back room. She thought that something went wrong and rushed to the scene. There, she saw a bunch of people aiding Captain.
With therapy sessions and regular vet visits, he was slowly getting there. Captain worked hard to get better, and Alice was by his side the entire time.
Captain was the only dog that loved to go to the vet clinics. It didn’t matter what the doctors would do as long as they’d pet him and give him treats all day. The dog just loved being the center of attention.
By the time Captain turned eight years old, Alice was so glad that he reached that age considering his health problem. Because of Captain, Alice was inspired to adopt more special needs dogs like him.
Since Alice and her husband had no children, they had plenty of time to take care of five rescue dogs. Captain’s brothers and sisters also took part in helping in the healing process.
There weren’t a lot of people that believed in Captain’s ability to walk normally again. The dog ended up just like he was before, but a bit wobbly. Alice was so proud of her beloved Captain and how far he achieved.
