The coronavirus outbreak brought entire neighborhoods on lockdown, but one Golden Retriever named Sunny in Colorado made a difference by helping his owner deliver groceries. The elderly neighbor couldn’t go out as she was considered vulnerable. Since social distancing was also observed, people need to stay 6 feet away from each other. Karen Eveleth, Sunny’s owner, wanted to extend a helping hand to her neighbor without breaking the rules during the quarantine period.
So she decided to use Sunny in delivering groceries at her neighbor’s doorsteps. Renee Hellman was one of Karen’s at-risk neighbors. She had some health issues and relied on oxygen. Since she was self-quarantined, she couldn’t leave her house to do the groceries. Karen sent Sunny to pick up Renee’s grocery list and when she got the list, she went to the store to buy the grocery items.
Sunny was the one who delivered the groceries to Renee. This became a routine, and Renee was delighted to have a kind neighbor like Karen and Sunny. The adorable Golden Retriever’s trip from his house and to his neighbor was a rewarding experience as he was able to help.
Sunny didn’t only help Renee get her food, but his presence brought her sunshine as well. For Renee, even little things made her feel good as it was also a way of communicating. Sunny was such a reliable dog because, aside from delivering groceries, he was also helping Karen get the mail and pick up trash whenever they go for a walk. Karen also explained that it only took one day to train his smart dog to perform the routine.
Since Karen had some feet and back issues, Sunny had been used to picking up her shoes or purse. Karen believed that Sunny was a hero, and she couldn’t help but be proud of what his furry friend had done in these trying times. Sunny would continue to do the grocery runs until Renee would be allowed to do the groceries herself.
